Just before you head out on your relocation, be sure to make a last minute check at dry cleaners, shoe repair shops, and similar locations where you may have left small items to be cleaned or fixed. You'd be surprised how often people forget to retrieve such items before they move.

If you're relocating to a new state, you may require new auto insurance. Check with your insurance agent before you leave; smaller companies may not have coverage where you're going. If not, they may be able to refer you to a company that does.

When relocating to a new state, you should be aware of whether or not that state requires you to pay an ad valorum tax when you register your car. Some states do; some don't. Call ahead, and expect to pay a fee of at least several hundred dollars, depending on the age of your vehicle.
