Don't trust precious and hard-to-replace items, like jewelry, family photos, and keepsakes, to a moving company when relocating. Try to carry them with you. Similarly, back up your computer files before you pack your computer, and keep the backup with you.

If you are relocating by automobile, be sure to have your vehicle serviced about two weeks before the move. If necessary, have new tires put on your auto. You don't want to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere just because your car breaks down.

When relocating, it's always a good idea to keep with you a survival kit containing all the things you absolutely need: medicines, eyeglasses, extra clothes, the keys to your new home, and (perhaps most importantly) money to pay the movers when they arrive.
