When purchasing the necessary moving supplies, don't neglect filler material. Most of your items won't perfectly fill a box, and you always need filler to pack around your more fragile items. The filler you choose should be light yet provide plenty of protection.

To bubble wrap or not? Air-filled plastic bubble wrap is a very effective filler and protective material, but its big drawback is that it's somewhat expensive. It makes better sense to save the bubble wrap for truly fragile items, and use paper or foam peanuts for the rest.

When preparing to pack, don't forget one absolute essential category: labeling needs. Even if you decide not to use adhesive labels, you'll need markers, pens, and the like to directly label the boxes. Otherwise, you'll have to deal with a crapshoot when you start unpacking.
